General Cognitive Psychology Societies
- American Psychological Association Division 3: Experimental Psychology
- The mission of Division 3 is to promote scientific inquiry through teaching and research, and to support experimental psychology through the advocacy and educational programs. They work closely with the Science and Education Directorates. Their membership consists of people who do basic and applied research in cognitive psychology, animal behavior processes and neuroscience.
- American Psychological Society
- Founded in 1988, APS's mission is to promote, protect, and advance the interests of scientifically oriented psychology in research, application, and the improvement of human welfare.
- British Psychological Society: Cognitive Psychology Section
- The Cognitive Psychology section of the BPS was formed in 1978 as a national forum for the discussion of research and issues of professional concern to cognitive psychologists. The Section's activities include an Annual Conference, usually held in September, one or more specialist events in the year and symposia at the main Society Conference in March/April.
- Cognitive Science Society
- This Society brings together researchers from many fields who hold a common goal: understanding the nature of the human mind. The Society promotes scientific interchange among researchers in disciplines comprising the field of Cognitive Science, including Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Anthropology, Psychology, Neuroscience, Philosophy, and Education.
- European Society for Cognitive Psychology
- ESCOP is a large Society with over 500 members, across a range of European countries and beyond. ESCOP's mission is "the furtherance of scientific enquiry within the field of Cognitive Psychology and related subjects, particularly with respect to collaboration and exchange of information between researchers in different European countries".
- Experimental Psychology Society
- The EPS is for the furtherance of scientific enquiry within the field of Psychology and cognate subjects. It holds periodical meetings at which papers are read and discussions held. The Society also disseminates information and educational material made available as a consequence of psychological research, including the publication of the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology.
- International Union of Psychological Science
- As stated in its Statutes, the IUPsyS works to promote "the development of psychological science, whether biological or social, normal or abnormal, pure or applied." It represents psychology in its full breadth as a science and as a profession.
- The Psychonomic Society
- This society promotes the communication of scientific research in psychology and allied sciences. Its members are qualified to conduct and supervise scientific research, must hold the PhD degree or equivalent, and must have published significant research other than the doctoral dissertation. Society membership, including associate members, is now around 2,500.
Specialised Cognitive Psychology Societies
- Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness
- ASSC promotes research within cognitive science, neuroscience, philosophy, and other relevant disciplines in the sciences and humanities, directed toward understanding the nature, function, and underlying mechanisms of consciousness.
- British Psychological Society: Consciousness and Experiential Psychology Section
- The growth of interest and research in Consciousness over recent years has been explosive, and to foster this development a new section of the BPS, the Consciousness and Experiential Psychology Section was formed in 1997.
- Cognitive Development Society
- The CDS was incorporated in September 1999 in order to provide a unified voice for the wide range of scholars, practitioners, and others who are interested in change and continuity in the intellectual processes that support mental life. Some CDS members are concerned with basic research or theory; others focus on policy issues and practical applications.
- Cognitive Neuroscience Society
- The CNS is committed to the development of mind and brain research aimed at investigating the psychological, computational, and neuroscientific bases of cognition.
- European Association of Cognitive Ergonomics
- The goal of EACE is to bring together European researchers working in the domain of cognitive ergonomics, with the aim of developing and enhancing the relationship between cognitive sciences and technical information processing system developments.
- European Brain Injury Society
- EBIS is an association attempting the co-ordination of activities to solve the many problems caused by head injury, an as yet insufficiently recognised disaster in society. It brings together the many professionals involved in the field, and the associations of people with head injury and their families.
- European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music
- ESCOM is a non-profit organization that seeks, among other aims, to further theoretical, experimental and applied research and teaching in the cognitive sciences of music.
- IEEE Computational Intelligence Society
- The purpose of the Society is to advance and coordinate work in the field of Neural Networks carried out throughout the IEEE and as such is exclusively scientific, literary and educational in character.
- International Association for Cognitive Education and Psychology
- IACEP is an international society of professionals (researchers, practitioners) and interested others who are interested in the fields of cognitive education and cognitive psychology. Cognitive education refers to the education that is focused on methods of cognitive and motivational enhancement.
- International Society for Research on Emotions
- ISRE was founded in 1984 with four principal objectives: to provide a forum for the exchange of information of interests to its members; to foster critical discussion of new ideas and findings on emotion; to encourage collaboration on, or joint exploration of, new research areas; to organize workshops and training institutes on new techniques and paradigms.
- International Society for the Study of Individual Differences
- The purpose of this Society is to foster research on individual differences in temperament, intelligence, attitudes, and abilities. The aim of the Society is to investigate the major dimensions of individual differences and to seek the determinants, causes and concomitants of individual differences, using concepts derived from these disciplines.
